Small Town Life

I grew up in the country.  My father joking said that we lived in the suburbs of our town, population @ 500.   Our home sat on a high hill.  From there we could see the small town that lay below and mountains that towered above us in every direction.

Artistic Pursuit

It's amazing how early in life that one can glimpse a child's personality.

The first evidence of my granddaughter's artistic leanings came when, at the age of two years, she could identify colors like burgundy and chartreuse.  For months she had been obsessed with drawing.  She demanded that we draw pictures for her and worked on pictures of her own.  By the age of three, her stick figures looked far better than mine!

It wasn't long before she was taking dance lessons and a few years later, she wanted to learn to play the guitar.

Ice

Mother Nature can't make up her mind this week.  On Thursday, the dampness and winds made a temperature of 15F feel even colder.  Yesterday, the temperature was in the sixties and remained there until 2am this morning.  Hard to believe my eyes this morning, when I awoke to ice-covered trees and car.

If the weather forecast is accurate, however, we'll be seeing temperatures near 60F for Christmas day.

Almost Christmas Day

Some years, I am still buying gifts on Christmas Eve.  Thankfully, I am more prepared this year.  The tree and decorations are up and presents are purchased and wrapped.  I braved the holiday crowds on Friday to purchase all the ingredients for Christmas cookies. So the next few days will be filled with the wonderful smell of baked cookies.
