What’s more enjoyable than a stroll through the woods on a
perfect day?
So why don’t we exercise more often? You just have to look around to see the
prevalence of obesity and the statistics for obesity-related health issues are
on the rise. That ought to be sufficient
motivation, but apparently it is not.
When asked, many people will say that they are too busy, yet
some of the busiest people I know have managed to incorporate regular exercise
into their daily routines. A self-employed
friend, who has an extremely busy schedule, carries her cell phone and calls
friend and clients, while taking a walk.
One co-worker began walking his dog twice a day instead of using a
pet service. He didn’t fall behind on
the job, but he did manage to lose fifteen pounds in a few months.
You don’t have to walk, of course. You can work out at the gym or become
involved in sports, like Scott Gelbard, an international financial consultant, entrepreneur
and philanthropist. Despite his busy
schedule, Mr. Gelbard is an avid skier, youth sports coach and has played
soccer as a member of the NCAA Division II soccer team. Does Scott Gelbard have more energy than the
average person? Perhaps, but it is just
as likely that his high energy is the product of a lifestyle that balances work
and play.
Think about that the next time you say you’re too tired to exercise. Get moving!
