There's nothing like "sitting on top of the world" and anticipating the scary, but oh-so-fun ride down.

School Days

Students of many ages and locations are hitting the books again, some more enthusiastically than others.

My daughter, a nontraditional college student, began this week and our local public schools started at the beginning of the month.  Friends in the northern U.S. report that their children are still celebrating their summer freedom until after Labor Day.  They're happy now, but will probably be singing a different tune at the end of the school year!

Summer Memories

Soon schools will be closing for summer vacation.   I still remember the heady feeling of sunshine, nature and long days of freedom to do as I pleased.

The Writer

I can really relate to this photo.  As a child, I loved to write stories and since I was country-raised with many acres of fields and woods to explore, I learned to combine my interests.  It was not unusual to find me next to a stream or tree, writing feverishly in my notepad.

Child's Play

The next time someone tells you that something is as easy as child’s play, remember this picture.  I can’t imagine doing that and heaven help the person who is trying to catch me!

Child's Play

Catch!

Watching the first year of a child’s life, you can’t help but appreciate the huge amount of things that they learn.  For the first few years, play is a child’s primary learning tool.    The best learning toys are simple and engage the imagination.  They can also be inexpensive or even free, like the ever-popular cardboard box.
